A.J. Rosales:
Resistor
The full-length release by A.J. Rosales, Resistor, is a wave of energetic and uplifting music that will wash over you and calm your spirit. Thoughtful lyrics are backed by hopeful melodies that give a refreshing feel to the album. Combining distinct influences of folk and classical guitar, Rosales has found a perfect blend to display his talents. A clean ringing voice and clipped acoustic guitar dominate his style to create this classic contemporary folk album. The music of A.J. Rosales is minimal but not simplistic. His clear and powerful vocals ring with each track as he sings songs of love and loss. Rosales skillful compositions reinforce his voice and deliver an underlying message of gentle vulnerability. Between every nuance of the vocals and every slip of the strings, you can hear Rosales care and love of the guitar. The clean and clear album leaves you with the sense of sitting in the room, witnessing a serenade. Surprising moments of classical style introductions create a unique framework for his music, but it was not until the middle of the album that I really began to appreciate his abilities. Resistor, the first full-length instrumental piece is a stand out track for me. The crisp style of his playing gives the sense of new beginnings and adventures to come. Rosales display of quick fingering running across the frets creates a distinct contemporary classical guitar sound. Its here that you begin to see the depth of his skills. There is no doubt that Rosales is a talented musician. He plays across the board from folk sounds, through blues influences with a hint of classical appeal. He creates complicated compositions on the purity of an acoustic guitar. The result is an uplifting and captivating album. From beginning to end, there is continually something to grab your attention.
