A Is Jump:
My Ice-Fingered Ghost
Ok, all those who party on a regular basis at Brit-pop dance nights like it's 1989, raise your hands. Now that we can deduce that you are still reading along, you clearly have an interest for all things of Lush, Pulp and Blur; so I have the pleasure of introducing to you A Is Jump. Along with The Marlboro Chorus, A Is Jump is a proponent in generating a respectable buzz for Davenport, IA's Future Appletree Records as the purveyors of a new and pure wave of indie pop. While it can be noted that My Ice-Fingered Ghost is a record with more moments akin to Guided by Voices and My Bloody Valentine than to Oasis and The Stone Roses, that doesn't mean that it's not danceable as well. It's the kind of record you could compare to the work of The Boo Radleys in the sense that no mater whether the songs are fast or slow paced, they're nonetheless dynamite; and controlling your feet is not an option. A is Jump is not afraid to summon the forefathers of the forefathers of Brit-pop on this record. This can be experienced in "Until the Roof Explodes" and "Brilliant Late Start," where Brian Eno's ancient glam spirit lingers throughout. Even though the record lacks a plethora of catchy hooks that are typical in the majority of indie pop records, the melodies are endearing, and "Cursing the Green Wave" rocks excellently but in a subtle Suede sort of way. My Ice-Fingered Ghost is sure to be a treat for anyone feeling nostaligic for the timeless, majestic sounds of Madchester and Shoegazer, and one of the best parts is that the duties for creating the music have been off-shored to the States. For this task, Davenport, IA has proved itself to be an effective head office.
