Various Artists: Anti-Antenna Sampler

1. The Vermicious Knid - No-Life Crisis

A band gets its name from a childrens book. You think: happy music! Youre wrong. Yeah, that screaming guy doesnt sound happy at all. The singing guy sounds much happier than the screaming guy, but still not very happy. I cant understand what theyre singing/screaming about. Is this emo? I dont know. Still, this is my second favorite song on the sampler.

2. White Star Line - Bowels Of A Bummer

You went from high to low with your oversized nose.../you went from high to low with your second class blow... Its been a while since weve had a good cocaine song, though this one seems like it was written and performed by pot smokers rather than coke sniffers. You take your roller-skates/Ill take my teeth. What are these guys talking about? Nice melody, good recording. Maybe the lyrics would make sense if I did drugs.

3. Cities To Drown In - Radio Day

Great band name. Are they trying to sound like Radiohead, or was it an accident?

4. Jon Epworth - What Is Ugly

Finally a song where I can understand the lyrics--though I wish I couldnt. This guy has brilliant backing vocal skills, but his lead vocal abilities leave something to be desired. If somebody else sang the lead, then this song would be amazing. As it stands, its only semi-amazing.

5. Katja - Diapsalmata

ROCK ROCK ROCK. SCREAM SCREAM SCREAM. ROCK ROCK ROCK. SCREAM SCREAM SCREAM.

6. Gaffer - Southern Cross

More rocking and screaming, only these guys do it a lot better than the last guys.

7. Static Is Silver - Untitled

This song is beautiful and makes me terribly sad.

-Jake Cansado
