The Astroglides: Channel Surfing with the Astroglides
[Fat Music]

The Astroglides.  This is surf-tastic.  This is Man or Astro Man?  And the Ventures and you know, all the other surf bands.  But this bands fantastic use of samples on this record, as well as weird instrumentation, really sets this music apart.  When listening to the album, you can really imagine channel surfing on a black and white television just after Leave it to Beaver was over and you needed something else to watch.  This is a television time machine.

The packaging: Fantastic.  Very reminiscent of a 50s surf record, right down to the Stereo reminders.  Also, it has naked chicks.  These dudes know how to surf it up.  Also included is a lyric sheet.  This is, of course, an instrumental record, so this sheet instead gives short backgrounds on the songs.  Very awesome.

The album plays out the way most surf records do: the songs are short and usually sound fairly similar.  The standout tracks on this piece are Tropically Disturbed, a nice bit of tribal surf which ends in a sacrifice to the volcano.  Very rock and roll.  The Man with the Golden Reverb is also surftacular.  Throughout most of the song, the reverb tanks are rocking, and the treble is cranked.  Very nice.  Its difficult to point out the rest of the tracks, but let it suffice to say they all stand up to the best of the surf anthems from the ages.  Even Moses cant top this shit.

In conclusion, I want these guys to play at my funeral, and I want my body to float out into the waves wearing sunglasses and a smile (and nothing else).  I think that would be a rockin way to die.  A+.
