Velcro Mary

Ben Arthur: Edible Darling
[Bardic/VEH]

When Peoria, Illinois native Ben Arthur gets signed to a major record label, his single Mary Ann will be put into heavy rotation on Top 40 stations around the nation, and probably medium rotation on the rock stations. Girls will love his dance-worthy beat and sexy voice, and guys will go along with it, so they have a chance of getting past second base with the girls after the party. Then, he will be said to be branching out, with his second single, Tonight, which will pull in a wider audience, and fans around the nation will say that Ben is moving forward from his pop beginnings, and letting his great guitar influences guide him.

Hell sell a couple million copies of his debut album and will pack stadiums with his adoring fans preaching that hes a cross between John Mayer andersomebody.

Meanwhile, lowly music critics such as myself will complain about the banal unoriginality of his singles and the fact that the rest of the album fails to present anything better. We will then blare our mid-nineties rock and smile at how great music used to be, and how bad most upcoming bands are today. But by then, Benll have a huge mansion, a second record on the way, and MTV playing his videos, so what will he care about what I have to say?
