Birdmonster: Self-Titled EP
[self-released]

Birdmonster conjures up for me that Looney Toons cartoon where Tweety drinks the Dr. Jekyll/ Mr. Hyde serum and raises hell for poor old Sylvester. Thats the kind of hell-raising music Birdmonster establishes on its self-titled EP. I very much liked what I heard. I thought their self description of Bruce Springsteen meets Modest Mouse was dead on (although more Mouse than Boss). Birdmonster is definitely on to something, but unfortunately you only get a taste of it on this three-song EP.

Coming from San Francisco, a couple of old-time chums, a college buddy, and their neighbor make up the members of Birdmonster. Self-proclaimed to be quite an act to watch live, which I will assume is true because of the vibe the EP gives off, they rip through the three songs with wild guitar licks, busy drums and self-searching lyrics. Lyrics such as You said to me that youll just replace me/ Well, fuck all that, no you cant erase me/ Honey without me, youll wait and see/ That you are stuck on me represent the energy, sarcasm and arrogance this band brings to the table. The right mixture of those elements makes for good rock.

This is good rock; now give me the full length.
