BLACK REBEL MOTORCYCLE CLUB The San Francisco-based rock band emerged in 1998 when English-born Nick Jago joined former high school friends Robert Turner and Peter Hayes. They named themselves after Marlon Brandos motorcycle gang in the 1950 film The Wild One. The group's influences included Dylan, Velvet Underground and The Stone Roses, amongst others. They began performing live all over LA, soon creating a reverberating buzz in in the LA music scene. The groups sound was soon being praised by their contemporaries such as Oasis and The Jesus and Mary Chain. They independently recorded a full-length demo in 1999 and it wasnt long before record companies were approaching them. Interest in the band spread across the Atlantic, where their demo was awarded record of the week on a BBC radio station. After a short US tour with the Dandy Warhols, the band produced a self-titled debut album in 2001 which was widely acclaimed on both sides of the Atlantic.
