Bleu: Redhead
I popped in Bleus Redhead album a month ago with high expectationsand Ive had it in my stereo ever since. Thoroughly enjoying its melodic, electric sounds, I was hesitant to take it out, yet most definitely too lazy, to actually review it! With that said, I want to finally give Bleu the credit he deserves; as a huge fan of other Aware artists, I can say that Bleu definitely comes through on top with his debut album. The songs on Redhead range from sounding like pop-emo sensations Jimmy Eat Worlds catchy guitar riff-laden tunes to slow, moody, rock ballads. It all flows surprisingly well, with the help of vocalist Bleu McAuleys songbird falsetto and his sultry Motown swagger. The instrumentation mainly consists of electric guitar chords and basic drum beats, but the overall sound isnt thin or lacking. A good many of the tracks have Wurlitzer and keyboard-type fills, and a few such as Well Do It All Again and You Know, I Know, You Know even have arranged string sections similar to the ways of Jump, Little Children. This added depth to the songs and gave Bleu the chance to show off the diversity of his musical talent. The line Im not above spittin old clichsand Im not above singin overdone love songs, from the song Trust Me, basically sums up the lyrical theme of the album: relationship woes. So, if you get tired of hearing about a guy pining over his ex, Bleu doesnt carein fact, he recorded an entire album about it. Fortunately, Bleus knack for intelligible lyrics and head bopping songs is what makes Redhead a great album and another good pick from Aware.
