The Bloody Hollies: Fire at Will
[Sympathy for the Record Industry]

Wesley Doyle should not be screaming. There may be nothing worse than a singer who is trying so hard to sound authentic that he/she sounds more like a politician trying to pull one over on us. Dont believe those guys, cause Im the REAL deal. Uh-huh. Doyles forced, hoarse vocal ultimately comes off as a garage rock Whitney Houstonall empty emoting. Then theres that high-pitched shriek of his that is so irritating that youll wish you could pick between him and poor Yoko Ono.

The band is ok. They play the punked up garage thing well and everything, but what good is that? DO WE REALLY NEED THIS? I hate to be so negative, but come on! Even good bits like the pulsating section in Emergency Shutdown leads to nowhere but the end of the song, and the welcome instrumental Dog Fight is placed at the end (?!) of the album. Doyle does fire off some sweet wah-wah guitar licks, but his songs are standard garage rock. Which means the Bloody Hollies dont offer up anything that thousands of other American bands have done oh so much better since the genres boom in the 60s. And it wont make your headache go away.
