BUZBY Buzby is one of the newer additions to the Charlottesville, VA music scene, having just recorded and released their debut CD, Break The Silence, in 2001. The band members, however, have been active in the local and regional music scene for years before Buzby ever formed. Vocalist and guitarist, Brenton Hund has long been established as a prominent player in Virginia local music. In college at the University of Virginia, he formed PSI, a band that enjoyed much regional recognition, including two Battle of the Bands victories at TRAX in the early 90's. Upon a change in the line-up, PSI became the Founders, which remain one of my favorite Virginia bands to this day. During my first year of college, I had the opportunity to see the Founders play numerous times and purchased Shadow of Giants, the band's only release, albeit a magnificent one. Lydia Ooghe, vocalist, comes from a Broadway background, having performed as Cosette in Les Miserables as a child. Steve Norfleet has played with the established Richmond band Fighting Gravity. Todd Herrington has played bass on the same stage as Dave Matthews and Blind Melon, and Joel DeNuzio has played with P-Funk and the Digable Planets. This talented group has been working hard to spread their music by touring the East coast, from Boston to Atlanta. Buzby's music is best described as a mix of groove, rock, and jazz with mad guitar riffs, saxophones, and tons of vocal harmonies.
