Cabrini: Show Offs Get Hurt
[Red Square]

Listening to the new Cabrini album, Show Offs Get Hurt, gives me a peaceful and warm fuzzy feeling that is kind of rare to find in a record.  The sound is so inviting that I can hardly imagine the person who would not enjoy listening to this record.  The most direct comparison I can think of is Death Cab for Cutie, because Kory Ross vocals definitely have the same feel as Benjamin Gibbards.  But the music, too, is just as impressive as some of Death Cabs work, although I suppose Cabrini prefers to create a bit of a calmer atmosphere with most of their songs.  It wouldnt be too far off to hold Cabrini up to Azure Ray in that respect.

The records appeal doesnt stop there.  The lush ballads really hold together well.  Lyrics in each song complement the lounge vibe of the music in the best possible way.  There are all sorts of instruments in use: guitars, keyboards, bells, pianos, and even a melodica.  Perhaps my favorite thing about the album is the use of empty space in every song.  It really distinguishes their sound.  So much of todays music gets packed so densely with sounds, making it can be burdensome to listen to; its really to Cabrinis credit that they have used so many instruments in such a controlled fashion.  Show Offs Get Hurt is the perfect album to relax to after a crazy day, and the sensitivity of Say I Love You, the title track, and practically every song on this album makes it a great choice to listen to if youre in a bit of an introspective mood.  Like I said, Id recommend this band to anyone.  The only possible complaint I could imagine is that they are a bit too mellow, but as long as that doesnt turn you off, check this album out!
