The Capstan
Shafts: Great Reset Button of Life (EP)
Despite just six songs and a paltry ten minutes of music, theres a lot to like about the latest Capstan Shafts release, even if they do sound like a Jr. Wilco (a lot of half-asleep vocals). In fact, a lot of this EP reeks of the Kamera EP. Regardless, its a wonderful showcase for a budding alt-country rock band. These are brief tunes, but they make an impression. The Tragedy of Empiricism, Crownchafings, and Some Good Factory Ass come flavored with a punchy rhythm section, dirty guitars and lazy melodies to hum along to. Its good stuff, but one hopes for a fleshed-out, full-on LP soon, so long as they turn the mic down a bit (it all crackles too much like the drums on Watching the Detectives).
