Captain Bringdown and the Buzzkillers: Feel Good Tunes
[Sock Hop]

Captain Bringdown and the Buzzkillers dont pretend to be anything more than what they are, and they do what they do very proficiently.  Feel Good Tunes is simply that: six fun, tightly-produced ska tunes that can be shot without a chaser.  While not noticeably different from your average ska party band, there is a faint underlying Texan flavor to what these guys do.  Thats not to say a Southern accent or an alt-country inclination, but merely a cut-loose heat-induced rowdiness.

I have been extremely critical of most of the ska bands that Ive heard in the last ten years, but these guys are just aggressive enough to hold my attention.  From the opening shout of Like Im handcuffed! to the final chorus of Stand True, they rip into these songs with a conviction that Ive found lacking in this scene.  If youre a fan of the genre at all, I strongly recommend giving BD and the BK a listen.  Theyve got it all:  a singer who can remain intelligible when belting out his lyrics, empowering backing vocals, tight percussions, and a trumpet that is used sparingly but appropriately.  Take it from a non-ska fan:  if they can win me over, theyve got something good going on.
