THE CATHERINE WHEEL The UK's The Catherine Wheel ranks among the 90's most under-appreciated modern rock artists. Some of the band's influences include INXS, the Stone Roses, My Bloody Valentine, and Pink Floyd. Still, Catherine Wheel has created a mystical sound, all their own, that has grown solid over the years and created a cult following of fans, particularly in the US. I have been a fan of this band since the early to mid-90's when Kristy Michael would often play the enchanting "Black Metallic" (a college radio favorite) on her after-hours all request show on 93.7 The Coast. However, my interest in the band grew immensely after I saw them perform at the Norva in July of 2000. On stage, the Catherine Wheel is simply electric. The connection among the band members is subtle yet real, and lead singer Rob Dickinson seems to thrive in that environment. The band's most recent effort, Wishville, was their debut on the major label Columbia, and it ranked among the most critically acclaimed albums of 2000. As soon as I have current news on The Catherine Wheel, this page will be updated.
