Christopher Sullivan:Let's Hear It for Headphones
[Reel to Reel]

The stark opening of Non Smoking Religious Song, the lead track on Christopher Sullivans Lets Hear It For Headphones, made me optimistic about what was to come.  The music seemed immediately heartfelt, and the vocals sounded a bit like Bill Callahan (Smog).  However, by the end of New Years Eve T-Shirt (track 2), I had already grown tired of Sullivan.

There are moments scattered throughout this album which lead me to believe that Sullivan has could be a powerful musical force.  Unfortunately, these brief glimmers of hope are quickly stomped out by the rest of the disc.  There is potential here, but the skills need to be honed a bit more.  A little self-editing would go a long way.

Some songs, like Frank Lloyd Wright, arent half bad.  Others, like Georgia Hubley, are just plain embarrassing.  At the end of the day, the weaknesses far outweigh the strengths.

I cant recommend this album in good conscience.
