Conner: The White Cube
[Lenore Adora]

Someones playing in my garage.  From here it sounds pretty tight: nice and dancy, upbeat and catchy, fast and groovy.  It must be those crazy Conner dudes breaking in and using my electricity again.  Not bad guys, but just not in my house, ok?

This album sounds great.  In fact, for being DIY, this is one of the best sounding records Ive ever heard.  The music, while not breaking down any barriers, is still pretty rockin.  A little bit of dance pop, a little bit of garage rock, and a whole lot of Strokes: the recipe for constructing this white cube.

As mentioned, the songs here are very Strokesy.  Sometimes the singers voice is difficult to tolerate, sounding almost like drunken slurs in places.  The guitars are all rock however, and I can picture these dudes wearing headbands and getting chicks.  The rhythm section gives a solid foundation for the guitars to do their rock thang.  The highlight of the album is track five, She Wont Take That Well, which starts off with some hot guitar work and escalates into a restrained climax that leaves you half fulfilled and half wanting more.  I cant really tell exactly what hes saying, but he does say something cool about a radio.  Pretty insightful of me.

These guys know tone.  Fender all over the place (including a bassman amp, which is easily one of my favorite tones on the planet).  Jagstang?  Oh yes.  Sweet single coils.

All in all, this is one terrific album, with better than decent songs.  I would predict that with enough touring and promotion, these guys could blow up quick.  Keep your eyes open for Conners White Cube to come crushing through your neighborhood, taking over your garage.
