Electric Frankenstein: Super Kool
[VMS/Morphius]

Being an unimaginative reviewer, I cant even count how many times Ive referenced the Supersuckers in these here reviews; hell, I just did last week. However, if its comparisons you kids want and if its comparisons that make life easier, then comparisons you shall get. Electric Frankenstein wield that same revved-up rawknroll punch that the Suckers hold back. So if its pure Brand XXX punk rocknroll that you kids are hungry for these days, then this is your band. The release itself has the lifespan of an EP with bonus tracks, but I think theyre chalking it up as one of their many, many albums.

Picture four guys with nothing better to do than sit on the couch, pull the tab off another beer, burp at the TV and talk endless circles about the state of rock und roll. I think then we might have visuals for our fearless foursome. Makes em sound like theyre on some kind of mission or crusade if you will and just maybe they are. Over the span of a decade, Electric Frankenstein has managed to stomp out fifteen high-octane albums and ridiculous amounts of singles, EPs and comp appearances. Judging by this extensive body of work, it seems theyve left jobs behind and record at their own raunch-ridden will.

On listening to this disc, images of mesh hat wearin, chop-faced, greasy haired, jean-and-wallet-chain-clad rocknrollers chug through the songs. While these guys obviously idolize 70s classic rock riffage and that fat, thick sound, the Frankensteins still know their basement punk roots. After six blazing originals, they proudly admit two of their main influences/inspirations by including live covers of the Sex Pistols Satellite and Sabbaths Never Say Die; perfectly tying up their true roots in a telling finale.

I guess my only real complaint would have to be their tendency to overdo the cock rock at times. I understand where theyre coming from, and it is probably intentional, but I have to make some kind of complaint Im pretty sure. Electric Frankenstein another contender for the championship title of rocknroll savior? Or some guys with an undying itch for fun? Next, Ill have to check out their new album, which I believe is already out on TKO.
