Fluid Ounces:
The Whole Shebang
The comparisons to Ben Fold are inevitable for Fluid Ounces. Here, on their fourth LP, they make pleasant piano-driven pop that isnt unlike that first Ben Folds Five album; but just as Seth Timbs Southern twang isnt quite so Southern, the music isnt quite as catchy either which may not be such a bad thing. Its likeable after all. Timbs can sing about sex without sounding raunchy (Fool Around), be romantic without sounding lame (Make It Through), clever without sounding condescending (Crazies). The songwriting and execution are about the same (somewhere between good and very good), but then again, Id sit through an album of shitty music to get to a song like Nobody Loves You (Like You Do). Its a mover. Its a shame Timbs band wont see much airplay, but when he sings Destined to Be Forgotten, lets hope hes not talking about himself.
