GERTY

Gerty, a new wave pop band from Durham, NC, originally a trio and now a quartet of friends, formed in 1996. They burst onto the Baltimore indie scene with their debut CD-EP called Raggedy Aneurysm EP. The six-song affair was chocked full of pop melodies, strong harmonies and a punky attitude. The next album continued in the super-catchy indie-pop vein but it was around this time that the band started dabbling with keyboards and formulating their own neo-New Wave sound that they are known for. They moved to North Carolina in 1998 after falling in love with the area whilst touring. The band's new songs are deeply rooted in the ever-present New Wave sound of their previous work, but there is a new sense of European electronica throughout with the use of drum machines and loops to create the beats and even more keyboards than before.
