The Goslings:
Perfect Interior
(EP)
The Perfect Interior EP is a cool new release by a band called the Goslings. If my internet detective research is correct, this might consist of a married couple and their recordings on a 4-track. Youll have to hunt down the Asaurus Records website to find this release Im sure, but theres a number of good reasons to do so. First off The Goslings are not afraid of experiments in sound. The first track Landing sounds like two songs to me, because it begins with a nice whirl of feedback noises and fades into a very quiet ambient sort of segment that reminds me of Brian Enos moon album a bit. Surprisingly the next few songs keep this quieter feel, but track three Celestine throws in some echoing vocals that sort of change the calm mood a bit. Then you get some ethereal vocals closing the song Lisa Gerrard-style so that the song has sort of a relaxing ending. Sthenno morphs the vocals in an even weirder way, but the result is sort of intriguing. Some of this stuff alternates between relaxing and discordant in sort of an unbalanced manner, so I might not suggest it for everybody. If youre into more experimental approaches to sound recordings and drone-like atmospheres, youd probably like to hear these five songs because of The Goslings unique approach to this style. Closing track Herons has a more consistent mood, but it is a bit short for a song with such a slow, ambient feel. Overall theres some really good stuff here. Id say The Goslings are capable of making some very cool music if they focus and develop their sound a bit in the future.
