Propulsion System: Get Destroy
When I listened to Gravity Propulsion System’s latest effort, Get Destroy, I was left feeling unsure as to what the band was aiming for. The promo sheet promised ”thrash-tech,” so I was expecting something like the Dillinger Escape Plan or some other ‘tech’ sounding band. Instead, I got a jumble of power chords and noise that sounds like The Bronx one minute and Sonic Youth the next. The vocals are given that stereotypical fuzzy quality that is so prevalent these days in indie rock, and even that does not do much to improve the sound. Some bands are great at combining influences, but most usually end up sounding just like Gravity Propulsion System, lacking focus in songwriting. Gravity Propulsion System really needs to decide what sound they want to go with, and they need to focus on it and hone their songwriting. I cannot really point to any memorable hooks or songs on this release, and the overall impression it leaves in my mind is one of chaos. So, until the System figures out what they truly want to do, I just do not think that I could, in good faith, recommend this release.
