Groovelily:Are We There Yet?
[self-released]

To the uninitiated, such as myself, Groovelilys latest releaseAre We There Yet? is a pleasing and impressive introduction.  At the core of this trio is Valerie Vigoda, whose talent at the electric violin should not overshadow her dynamic voice, duly capable of being wistful and powerful, both within the time span of just a few seconds.

Its All Right, my favorite track from this release is a beautiful song, and perfectly demonstrates how well this trio works together to mesh strings, harmonies, and a catchy as hell melody.  Its one of those songs you play immediately over again just to make sure the pleasure you received from hearing it the first time was real.  After the second and third listen, it still was.

Groovelily has a penchant for whimisical, clever lyrics.  Take the first track, Rewind: Im feeling paranoid/Hanging Like Harold Lloyd/The clock face is dripping and my grip is slipping/Im feeling paranoid.Other songs, such as an Open Letter to Madonna and Diva Girl show more wit, all while revealing a slice of Groovelilys attitude towards the current state of pop music.

For those who can appreciate rich string accompaniment and harmonies, sometimes at a Beatlesesque level, plus a good measure of jazz influence and Steely Dan-like wit (and sound, too), then this release comes highly recommended.  The content of Are We There Yet? is so dynamic that theres a lot to discover, allow to grow on you, and claim as a favorite.  As of right now, Ill take track #3, thank you very much.
