GUIDED BY VOICES

Nearly everything written about Guided By Voices describes them as indie-rock gods, but looking at their discography, how could they (or more specifically, lead singer Robert Pollard) be anything but just that.  Abundant influential recordings on numerous salient independent labels have marked Guided By Voices' career since their inception in the mid-eighties in Dayton, Ohio.  The band's recordings,  many extremely difficult to find, have turned a sea of devoted fans  into a cult following of tape-traders.  With the musicians having been in the GBV line-up numbering at least in the teens, the band's sustenance appears to be in Robert Pollard.  Critics describe the band's music as a mix between a heavily-influenced jangly, brit-pop and prog-rock, and GBV has certainly wavered back and forth from one end of the spectrum to the other at various points over the years.
