Jack Shriner:
For Here or To Go
Jack Shriner sure enjoys variety, and its a good bet he orders something different every time he goes out to eat whether that's for here or to go. Hes toured and played guitar with the contemporary The Scientifics, yet a whole lot of older musical influences run through his For Here or To Go solo release. In fact, many of these inspirations may surprise you. The vocal arrangement of I Awoke, for instance, brings to mind Simon & Garfunkel, whereas the piano ballad A Ways Away is highly reminiscent of Brian Wilsons gentle approach. Theres also a strong folk vibe funning through this work as well, and this stylistic presence is most strongly felt during both Polyamorous World and (Its) Your Spin. Shriner keeps listeners on their toes with his various instrumental colorings. Smokestack Soliloquy is ambient, quiet, and spacey, while an angular guitar solo wakes up Polyamorous World. Then on Quayside, Shriner goes completely instrumental for a pretty, guitar-dominated number. Its hard to know what to call this music, but if you choose to label it, do not refer to it as aural fast food. That's because For Here or To Go is filled with music that sticks to your bones, and probably even builds strong muscles too.
