Jennifer on Sunday: Paper Covers Rock
[Who's Jennifer]

The latest effort from Jennifer on Sunday, entitled Paper Covers Rock, rocks!   This release from these boys from Virginia Tech is a top to bottom solid collection of guitar-driven rock.  The influences of mid-Atlantic college rock forerunners Emmett Swimming and Dillon Fence can definitely be heard here, but Paper Covers Rock definitely manages to further carve out a distinctive niche for Jennifer on Sunday in todays local mid-Atlantic scene.

I cant say enough good things about this album.  As the primary songwriter, Jim Hodson has put together fourteen top quality songs.  Hodson manages to turn a demoralizing subject such as a poet or songwriter losing his inspiration into an up-tempo power chord that almost makes you forget the number is supposed to be depressing.  Somehow I doubt that Hodson, Bell and Frost have ever had a problem with the pen running dry.  Songs like Passing Time, Johnny Dunn, and Radio Star cant help but make you want to start banging your steering wheel as you cruise down the interstate as if your name was Jerry Macguire.  I missed my chance to see these guys live a few weeks ago and having thoroughly listened to this CD, I cant tell you how much I regret it.  Considering that recorded music often doesnt fully capture the full effect of an artists efforts, I cant imagine how terrific these guys would be in front of a live audience.

If theyre not carrying Jennifer on Sunday in your local record stores, Im sorry.  Youre missing out, but not to despair. Point your browser to the Jennifer on Sunday Official Website, and order yourself a copy of this album.  If youre not so sure, there are even links to download a few sample mp3s.   So many albums these days are filled with a bunch of junk and only one or two keepers.  Paper Covers Rock dispels that notion and packs a lot of punch for the price.  End Result: Jennifer on Sunday has produced a top quality album with a distinctive sound that should propel them beyond the limits of college radio stations nationwide.
