Kissinger: Me and Otto
[WCI]

Kissingers Me and Otto is a collection of character studies disguised as dumb riff rock, but even the riffs aint so dumb. Chopper and the gang sound really good, and the mans onto something with lines like, The day she decided to trade in her vows, half the towns boys tried to settle her down/She put all her money on a beat down car, borrowed a camera, moved west to Prague where all free beds had men in them til she shaved her head and rented just to piss em off, and I know he found you first/He quenched your thirst, and he loved your worst/Before he bored you half to tears. Its as if the mans taking nods from Stuart Murdoch, but the sound and the lyrics only make up two-thirds of the equation. It doesnt work unless youve got the songs, and though you sense a number of them reaching for something early on, they ultimately give into the riff. They want to rock, and who could blame them? But while rock will keep them in the garage, songs would mean the world.
