Kitten on the Keys: (It's Not a) Pretty Princess Day
[self-released]

Kitten on the Keys is her performance name, but legally she goes by Suzanne Ramsey.  Kitten on the Keys has a sweet, sweet voice and a very dirty and childish mind.  Her debut recording, (Its Not a) Pretty Princess Day seems an experience better left to live stage performances, not a CD.  However, the illustrated cover art is really quite cute.

This record is chock full of cutesy, singsong tunes, all sung in a baby talk kind of a way.  I truly cannot understand how anyone could sit through this crap. Ten seconds into this record, I had to shut it off, because the singing was so incredibly agitating.  It starts off with Kitty Anarchy, which is loosely based on Anarchy in the U.K. This isnt even the most horrible thing that could happen though. The next song is about foot fetishes and contains this throw away gem: Dont cha grab me in the crotchie, tally ho! Down you go gigolo! Come ride the toe rodeo! Ugh.  Or how about, Granny sells my panties on E-Bay! She lifts em, from the hamper, Into Zip-Lock baggies fresh theyll stay I mean if her Grandmother really did sell her dirty panties on E-Bay, that would explain a lot. And maybe youre into that Im sure someone must be.

This whole shtick is obviously something that Kitten enjoys and a very stereotypical image that she doesnt mind perpetuating which is fine, she seems to do the I am a voluptuous adult, who likes sex and talking like a 10 year old girl thing very well.  Her performance on record sounds very burlesque-like, which supports the reviews of her live shows.  She is quite known in various campy circles in California and is a beloved fixture of San Franciscos underground art and variety shows.

Obviously Kitten on the Keys is aimed at a terribly specific group of music fans music fans that would need to be less into the music and more into the performance and be from the Bay area.  So, perhaps her audience is not really made up of music fans after all, but rather fans of baby talk and kinky sex and whatever else that could possibly include. Im sure the list is long and Im sure I would rather not see it.
