Lanky:
Last Chance for a First Impression
Who or what is Lanky? Thats the first question. To be brutally honest, I wouldnt have given this EP a second look with a name like that. Dont judge a book by its cover? Yet, in this case, I wasnt wrong. Unfortunately, sometimes the name itself is a premonition for the music. So back to answering the first question, hes an all-in-one singer, songwriter and guitarist, a New Jersey native with a live EP, Last Chance for a First Impression that was released on this March. The tracklisting includes six songs, one being a U2 cover of Whos Gonna Ride Your Wild Horses, and the other five are about love and you guessed it more love. Songs have lives all their own," Lanky declares, "and the smartest thing I can do is know when to work on them and when to leave them alone." With that said, his words are too simple and safe, but easy enough to understand without being too ambiguous: This is the real deal, This is the way that I feel, This is the real deal, It ain't no fooling around, Hey it's the real deal, I got my feet on your ground. Sometimes when the only instrument being played is an acoustic guitar in the background, the vocals should be one step up, but unfortunately the result isnt as ear-gasmic as I had hoped. His range isnt too flexible, but theres always room for improvement. Lanky has previously released a full length, Inner Onwriter, which was his debut. Although this live EP seems to be more for existing Lanky fans, maybe the first album would be worth checking out.
