Le Tigre at Irving Plaza in New York, NY 10/31/04
Le Tigre rocked the socks off all the kids in Irving on Halloween. Once the host finished with a recitation from Footloose, which I really could have done without, Le Tigre dressed as Annie, a nun, and Bam Bam scorched thru TKO, their newest single. I had been looking forward to this show for quite some time firstly because it was two days before one of the most important elections in our countrys history and I was sure that Le Tigres political slant would be in full force, and secondly because it was Halloween. It turns out the latter reason actually should have deterred me. Halloween shows, in fact, appear to be a bad idea. What a bother people had all sorts of crap poking out of their costumes dragging or lighting up. It was positively wretched. It didnt help that it was gorgeous out and the highest attendance at the Halloween Parade in years. I expected some sort of inspirational rant from Kathleen, Joanna or JD about the looming election and the importance of everyone who is of age to get out and vote! But she simply said she wasnt going to talk about it and that she knew we knew what to do. The band then rocked out to Seconds, their beats-laden F-U to Bush, You make me sick. I wont even get into the overwhelming disappointment that I, as well as many others, felt when waking up Wednesday morning to find out that our choice for President of this country had lost to a man who has and will continue to run this country into the ground. But wait, this is Le Tigre review. So the girls were completely fantastic. The show consisted mainly of tracks from This Island with a handful of old favorites thrown in like the good time that is Deceptacon, which urged every fan in the joint to bounce and shake with reckless abandon and joy. The highlight for me was Nanny Nanny Boo Boo, my favorite track from the new album, which was choreographed to the fullest. I leave you with this thought from Le Tigre All you need to know is we love to see the crowd move.
