Liquid Poodle: Bob Jones (EP)

Let us say that Liquid Poodle will not be providing musical entertainment for The Masters tournament championship dinner next year.  Set in a bluesy tone, the first and title track on the new EP portrays Bob Jones as a bigoted, self-righteous individual.  (FYI: Bobby Jones, who many regard as the greatest amateur golfer in the history of the sport, was instrumental in refining Augusta National, the golf course on which the Masters is played every year.  Mr. Jones would have turned 100 this year.)  The second track, I Hate You, is actually a lighthearted song about a man who doesnt make any claims about much of anything except for the fact that he doesnt like you.  Amazingly, the catchy tunes and underlying blues tones give needed padding to the poignant and borderline harsh lyrical content.  The third and fourth tracks are guided by a rolling beat as if speeding down an empty Kansas road at 2 a.m. in a convertible.  Combined with lead singer Ed Alkalays patented deep-moving voice, the songs just make you want to tap the steering wheel for hours.  The final track is the bands rendition of  Youve Got to Hide Your Love Away.  Although another Eddies rendition of this Beatles original is getting slightly more airplay, this version is definitely top-notch.  Am I allowed to say that Liquid Poodles version is just as good as Eddie Vedders?  Of course I am and it is.
