Logh: The Contractor & the Assassin
[Bad Taste]

Oh Sweden, where would we be without you?  Would anybody care about Disco at all if you hadnt brought us ABBA?  And how could anyone be a Neo-Garage Rock fan without the Hives?  Would TRL still be with us if Sweden hadnt written and produced all those Britney Spears and NSync hits?  Your personal appreciation of these Swedish contributions to modern music may vary depending upon your musical tastes, but Swedish artists certainly have had a knack for making huge impressions in the contemporary musical landscape.

I can only hope that Logh will get at least a fraction of the worlds attention with their new single The Contractor and the Assassin.  The track comes from a full length album entitled The Raging Sun, but all I have here is a five song EP with The Contractor and the Assassin as the lead track.  But this single is very appealing to me.  The structure is a bit like your typical indie-song when it starts out.  There are brooding guitars, and then the drummer and singer both choose to express themselves at the same point in time to create that warm feeling of confusion I sometimes get from Pavement and the Archers of Loaf.  But thats about the only common thread with those bands.  The clear production and quiet interlude lead the song into a totally new direction that can hardly be compared to anyone I know of.  All the songs here have a somber atmosphere, and it makes me quite curious to hear what their full album sounds like.

Although quieter than the single, The Bones of Generations (SCJ Version) still manages to catch your attention with its tense acoustic guitar and somewhat ominous vocals.  The songs NoFo and The King of Romania make for a pair of fine yet quiet instrumentals, and although Wild Card is instrumental as well, it shows some of the heavier rock sound found on the lead single.  With a unique sound like this, Logh deserves a bit of your attention, and if the tracks on their full LP are as exciting as The Contractor and the Assassin, the rest of the world might step back and take notice too.
