Lucero: That Much Further Wet
[Tigerstyle]

Bands that play country in a decidedly alternative fashion rise up from time to time, but Lucero is one of those bands whose talent and passion have allowed them to last longer and shine brighter than perhaps any of their contemporaries.

That Much Further West, the third proper album from these Arkansas boys, showcases them at their best.  Having not heard any of their previous stuff, from what I have read this is their most accomplished album the album that will bring their faces to music magazines and the television.  Obviously Tom Waits and Springsteen are influences here, but Lucero have also sited the Pogues, Johnny Cash and the Replacements as major contributors to their sound.  An incredibly flattering review in Rolling Stone magazine even said the following about this latest effort Its the country album the Replacements never made.  If that is not a ringing endorsement of how great your record is (if youre a Replacements fan of course) then I dont know what is.

Ben Nichols vocals are amazing in that one too many whiskeys sort of way, a little bit Waits, a little bit Yorn.  The remainder of the band is rounded out by Todd Gill, John Stubblefield, and Roy Berry.  These guys play together well, and listening to the record, it seems as if all four members sync perfectly.  A great record.
