Lyle King:
Left Standing
 |
It is certainly no secret to anyone who
knows me that I love most acoustic rock soft, slow melodies that run through
you and touch your soul in a way that other music is unable to do. Lyle Kings
Left Standing is just that sort of rock, with Kings tenor voice weaving in and
out of sometimes sad, sometimes sweet songs. Each of the thirteen tracks is
beautiful in its own way, and they kept me listening to the CD for days. Chris
Titchner, another accomplished singer-songwriter, is featured on backup vocals
for four of the tracks, and his style certainly compliments that of King. Many
other guest musicians are featured, and the obvious chemistry between these
musicians raises the caliber of music and increases the quality of the songs.
King doesnt falter at all when moving from a ballad to a more up-tempo beat.
His natural talent is apparent from track one, and by writing each song
personally, you never get the feeling that he is singing something he doesnt
feel. His sincerity comes through, and his passion permeates the lyrics and
penetrates the listener.
This CD is solid work, a remarkable collection of beautifully played and sung
songs. The addition of the cello, a piano and background vocals of Titchner,
Angela Scarpone, and Michaela Condon come together beautifully. Track 10, I
Miss You, features the most mournful cello solo by Ana Jesse, as does the song
Angel, which is a standout track; though to pick only one favorite is almost
impossible. One Way Street reminds me of the hometown Ive left behind and how
each road seems to lead to the same place. Left Standing is spectacular in its
own quiet, humble way. I expected to hear a certain quality of music when I
first listened to Lyle King, and I was certainly not disappointed. This CD is a
must have for any fan of acoustic rock and any fan of pure and passionate music.
