Majestic Twelve:Searching for the Elvis Knob Majestic Twelves Searching For The Elvis Knob strings together some of the catchiest pop songs Ive heard in a while. Songs like Soylent Green and Livin On The Beach will have you singing along by the end of the first listen. Nobodys trying to break any new ground here, but sometimes thats ok. Throughout the album youll notice distinct parallels between these songs and songs you already love. I Dont Have A Job, one of this albums finest, owes a lot to Its The End Of The World As We Know It (And I Feel Fine) until it breaks into a chorus that seems stolen from an unwritten Gin Blossoms song. Musically, those bands would give you a good idea of what to expect here: jangly guitar pop from the ancient days of when Winona Ryder was still banging the guy from Soul Asylum. Singer Kenyata Sullivan has an interestingly distinct voice. Not interesting enough to merit the pretentiously a cappella Swim Out to the Jetty, but everybody makes mistakes. At times he sounds a bit Conor Oberst-esque, if youre still looking for a reference point. If you like pop music, you have no excuse not to like this album. The songwriting is strong, and the melodies are addictive. If we were still in the mid 90s, these guys would rule the airwaves. Still, I expect more good things to come from Majestic Twelve.
