Mardo at The Viper Room in Los Angeles, CA - 2/7/05

Mardo

Hard rock trio Mardo played an abbreviated set of arena rock at the Viper Room last Monday in honor of their debut record release.  Fronted by what appeared to be a longhaired Michael Imperioli and the keyboard player from Bon Jovi (only prettier), the band tore through four originals and two covers.

Their music has been best described as chant-along, big beat guitar rock (by LOTDs own Chaz Martenstein).  I would add that its tuneful, but hardly more than cock rock, which can be nice for a night out at the Viper Room, but not for daily consumption.  Still, theres something likeable about these guys with their purple bell-bottoms, their mascara, and their Huey Lewis covers.  After all, its so difficult to tell these days where the eye shadow ends and the pretense begins, but I would say even more difficult when youve got a beer in your hand and youre nodding your head to the beat.  Hey, Kiss never used a theremin.
