MATTHEW SWEET

It wasn't until I started compiling links to make this page that I realized just how crazy about his music are Matthew Sweet's fans.  I always knew that Sweet was the origin of my love for that driving power-pop sound, but the interest that exists on the web alone for this way under-appreciated artist is astounding (see the numerous links below).  Sweet, from Lincoln, NE, is unabashedly more influenced by 60's pop, particularly the Beatles, than he is by the post-punk scene he would most likely be associated with.  Sweet has perfected the art of pop song-writing, despite never truly scoring big with "pop" audiences.  Performing solo for most of his career has afforded Sweet the opportunity to work with many talented, influential persons in the music industry, including Richard Lloyd of Television, Ric Menck of Velvet Crush, and Brendan O'Brien, who produced 100% Fun.  Sweet puts on a surprisingly excellent live show, considering he is a solo act and travels with different musicians for each tour.
