MIKROKNYTES

The Mikroknytes are a Washington DC electronic act exploring the relatively untested area of layered electronic drone music. Made up of electronic veteran Derek Morton and new collaborator John Coursey, the Mikroknytes sound varies from a casio-tone simplicity, reminiscent of fellow DC post-rock experimentalists Trans Am, to a fuller, more dissonant wall-of-noise sound suggestive of an early 90s shoegazer rock. Coursey plays violin over Mortons layers of electronics, and the effect varies from thin orchestration to wildly pitched dissonance. With a sound that is very cutting-edge, and perhaps not for everyone, the Mikroknytes nevertheless put on a very enjoyable, accessible live show that is worth catching.
