Milo Pony: The Electric Boogaloo
[Music for the Masses]

For Milo Pony, The Eclectic Boogaloo was serendipity. This creative ten-song mix was formed by a trio of friends that never saw this coming. What really makes Milo Pony so far out (and stand out) are their weapons of choice. They range from thrift store bought items all the way to their own body parts. Some may call it musical nonsense, and some, pure genius. They reminded me a lot of another band I had heard previously called Et At It. If youre into this type of music, The Eclectic Boogaloo is the ideal album.

It was obvious that this whole project seemed like three bored guys just trying to create something out of nothing in the name of music. There is absolutely no consistency in rhythm or the instruments that were used. Some of the vocals are heard as the chorus, but not often. The result is impressive considering the whole album was an improvisation of any sound that they could make without any thought or planning. Some of the sounds are eclectic but entertaining. Several of the noises included toy pianos, fretless bass, keyboards, random vocals, cans and even their stomachs. Some of my picks would be Sloppy Jazz and Wonkas Lament.

I wouldnt take The Eclectic Boogaloo seriously, but if youre willing to spend five dollars on a CD to just listen to something unusual and amusing, Milo Pony would be the ones to turn to. They are currently signed on an Internet startup label, Music for Masses Records, and they are already plotting for a second album.
