The Mint: Self-Titled EP
[self-released]

Too often I feel like bands take the side of the boyfriend that will say anything to get a girl in bed.  Hell be thoughtful when shes had a bad day and act concerned when she needs a shoulder to cry on.  Meanwhile, as the tears are flowing, hes thinking about taking her back to his apartment for some further comforting.  Its all a selfish act that is void of real sincere emotions.

What does it mean to create emotional music?  Does this mean that you have to train your voice to sound like its stuck in a constant whining state or that you need to scream at the top of your lungs until your voice cracks?  This all depends on the lyrics and how they make you feel in that moment. It is not about having a checklist and trying to fit into as many genres as possible just to gain more fans who will buy your next album.

Somewhere in Lancaster, PA, there are five guys who seem to know what emotional music really is.  The Mint infuses the typical lineup with some Coldplay-style keyboard action and slightly whiny vocals, and it works well for them.  The music is solid and energetic yet remains well intertwined with the heartfelt lyrics that weave through each of the four tracks.  Whether driven by keys or strings, their songs maintain an honest quality that many bands try their best to fake.
