Miss Autopsy: Ruhr
[self-released]

If I were Simon Cowell of TVs American Idol, I could sum up Des Moines resident Steve Beyerinks solo project Miss Autopsy in three phrases: great sound, but horrid lyrics and singer. Unfortunately, I am not Simon Cowell, so I must expand on that succinct statement with a review.

I have to say right off the bat that I absolutely love Miss Autopsy up until the point Beyerink starts singing. Not to be harsh, but his voice is simply shaky and difficult to listen to. I want to say that I dont like the lyrics, but I simply think lines like Ive got a nation at my command/but no living thing would reside there are simply poorly delivered.

But I was trying to speak positively.

Every song starts off amazingly. Each song has a new lo-fi arrangement of a jarring, thrashing, painful guitar that exudes emotion accompanied by sparse but perfect drums. The problem is, once Steve has finished his fantastic introduction, he starts singing.

Beyerink says that he hopes to find a full band in the near future. I hope this is the case, because I would love to hear a new vocalist (and maybe a new lyricist) to sing along side his beautiful soundscape.
