Narcotic Dreams: Cursed Night
[804 Noise]

In the brief twelve minutes it runs, Narcotic Dreams' Cursed Night accomplishes something rare: listenable cinematic noise. With sweeping, mutilated guitar swells, expansive ambient, harmonic backgrounds and sub-two-minute song lengths adding a sense of movement, Narcotic Dreams sculpts a heavy environment, paranoid and full of a sense of impending doom – all of which is most appropriate, since after all, Cursed Night is a re-imagining of the soundtrack to Castlevania 3. The Castlevania series was accompanied by some of the best music of the 8-bit video game era, so Narcotic Dreams already had a step up on its achievement; but the degree to which the feel and mood of the games is captured is commendable. I feel that even if Simon Belmont didn't approve of this music, then certainly Dracula (and possibly Alucard) would.
