The Nevvers:
Je M'appelle
The Nevvers are from Seattle, and they have been together for about a year. They play bland rock n roll. Their demo is opening-band, listen to a few chords, wait for the singer to open his mouth, decide the band sucks and exit if at all possible to another room of the club until the band you are there to see takes the stage and most certainly blows that opening band out of the water. The Nevvers are kind of Ben Folds-y but not as obnoxious and egotistical. The recording is mediocre, and there doesnt seem to be much passion running through the veins of these kids. I really dont know what to say about this demo titled Je MAppelle. I will say that along with the five basement studio (or wherever they were recorded) tracks, there are five live tracks. Undoubtedly, this was done in an effort to spark interest in their live show. This might have seemed like an outstanding idea, since playing live is how most bands develop their fanbase. However, it doesnt work out so well when it does nothing for your case. It is a gobbledygook mess. The tracks do nothing for The Nevvers that they havent already shown us on the previous five tracks of flavorless music. They refer to it as melodic indie pop to screaming punk with some ass shakin in between Where? I didnt hear that at all. No ass shakin happenin around here. If that is ass shakin I wont be going to Seattle to see this band, ever. If you are so inclined, they are reportedly recording a full-length release.
