NOT FOR SCHOLARS

After meeting at the University of Hartford in the fall of 2001, Tim Cohan and Shawn Murphy were playing open mics together around the Hartford, Connecticut area. Searching for a more dynamic sound, the duo invited friend and percussionist Tom Nelson to sit in. After two weeks, the trio had a repertoire of songs from various artists and begun writing their own material. Along with the writing and development of songs has come the refinement and development of Not For Scholars unique style; additions of violin and electric guitar have allowed NFS to attract and amaze their crowds. The groups sound has developed into a blend of modern rock structured around an acoustic sound.
