The O.A.O.T's:
Typical
The O.A.O.Ts or The One and Only Typicals are generic pop punk from California. Pardon my lack of enthusiasm, but why does everything have to sound the same? Or is the Typical part of the name intended to be some sort of witty take on the monotonous sounds that revolve in the world of pop punk? I realize the whole reason there is a genre of pop punk is that so many bands feel the need to churn this crap out, month after month; but very few of them ever get anywhere. I mean, does anyone else know that or is it just me? I am all for musical spirit and the rock n roll dream, but sometimes it just seems obvious that it is for fun, which of course, is totally cool. I would never deny anyone his or her fun times. Im just saying The O.A.O.Ts seem like this kind of band. Its a rad time to play shows and hang with your friends, but you must constantly progress. With this kind of album, which has been heard before, I wonder if The O.A.O.Ts have what it takes to evolve. Will they remain creatively stagnant? They have been together since 2002 and were most recently part of a compilation called Kiss or Kill: Volume One. While the compilation is promising, its very stuck in the L.A. scene where it was born. As long as these guys want to continue rocking out with their current, local peers, they should have a great time and sell many CDs to fans, but beyond that, there isnt much to keep you hanging on.
