PACER Pacer is a Wilmington, NC indie pop band formed in 1997 as a reaction to the "loud heavy bands" invading their hometown scene (and of course eventually invading national commercial radio). The three-piece band consists of husband and wife team Kim Ware-Mathews (vocals, drums, keyboard) and Jeremy Mathews (vocals, drums, guitar, keyboard) as well as Bill Patterson (bass). Prior to Pacer's forming, all three musicians had taken part in the Wilmington music scene for years, and in early 2000, Kim and Jeremy formed their own Eskimo Kiss Records to help some talented area bands release records. Pacer's music has been compared to the likes of REM, Yo La Tengo, and the Blake Babies.
