Particle Zoo:
Loneliness and Strangers
Heres the deal with this record: if you like the sounds of Elvis Costello and the Clash, you will probably like Particle Zoos Loneliness and Strangers. I like both and am therefore very happy to have received this record. All the tracks are solid and fluid; this is a very easy album to digest in its entirety. It starts with a brief acoustic song intro and then busts into the rock which holds strong for the next three tracks. Then out of the blue comes a walrus, which coincidently enough is blue on Blue Walrus, a track that sounds like it could have been an outtake from the Beatles White Album. So far, so good, and it just gets better with the next track Toe in the Grave and everything else that follows. If I had heard Toe in the Grave on the radio, I would have gone out and bought this record; and it takes a damn good song for that to happen. Particle Zoos bio is not comprehensive; in fact it is an inch-thick slice of paper basically saying, hi, this is our record, so off to the web site I went for more info. Unfortunately, theres not much there about the band either, except for your standard stuff. I know they come from New Jersey, the state know for hit-or-miss rock, and this is apparently their first full-length album. Although theyre from Jersey, these boys sound like they where imported from the shores of England. In just listening to their tunes, the influences seem to be not only the aforementioned bands, but also the Kinks, the Stones, and The Ramones. At this point you should be looking for the link to the bands website so you can order the album, but if you need more convincing, I shall continue. While their songs can tackle some adults themes, the bands juvenile approach on some songs can leave you laughing as with Toe in the Grave, which has the lyrics I shoulda listened, shoulda, shoulda let you finish off a sentence/ If I didnt, well I didnt, but I didnt mean it/ If you wanna go, if you wanna know, if youre gonna go, Im keeping the TV. They can also turn up the heartbreak such as with You Cut Me Down, which shows the bands more mature side. The bottom line is that I couldnt have been happier to receive this album. Its refreshing, fun and addictively catchy. The link is below; click on it and buy this album.
