Philip DeStefano: Tension and Release
[self-released]

Philip DeStephano makes jazz-inspired, coffee-flavored acoustic fair, and its about what youd expect: slow, meandering melodies with the volume turned down.  Its not bad, but if youre not already a fan of the genre, then youre not missing out on anything.  Tension and Release offers up a lot of mournful ruminations, and though DeStephano has a way of making them sound less severe than they are, songs like the albums title track and the waltz-y Obvious Answer are as sad as they sound.  Fans of folk music may dig his plaintive style and careful plucking, but be forewarned: this is a slow-burner.

Choice cuts: the road-trippin Foreign Movie and soul-searchin Cant Go On.
