Polemic:
Plastic on the Mouth Hole
After several lineup and latitudinal changes, Polemic has finally come into their own. The three-piece band out of Athens, Georgia has finally released their second album, Plastic on the Mouth Hole, and it conveys anything but the usual sophomore slump. In fact, lets just be honest about this album: it might be my musical wet dream come true. Let me lay out this bands recipe for success: sonically sparse and angular sounds, straightforward guitar, bass-heavy grooves, intense female (and sometimes male) vocals, steady rhythms courtesy of no-frills drumming, and a healthy dose of arty pretentiousness. This music is simplicity at its best. When all of the elements come together for Polemic, comparisons could be made to early P.J. Harvey, Boss Hog, and Bikini Kill. Lyrics often deal with the difficulties, crimes, and desperation of interpersonal relations, exposing a variety of emotions that arent particularly pleasant. On the other hand, the music is all hip-swinging sensuality. This is the kind of music that is so darkly delicious and sexy that it makes you feel guilty. Goddamn! I could go on, but that would impede you, dearest LOTD reader, from spending time actually listening from Polemic, which is obviously what you should be doing.
