Pollen: Lonely in the Crowd EP
[self-released]

For a group who has only been together for a short time, Pollen has released an impressive set of songs.  One Man and His Dog starts the album with brooding guitars and a dark tone.  Nick Toones beautifully whiney Yorke-like voice soars above the layered guitars with ease.

Each song on this album incorporates a varying level of softness and intensity.  In The Silent Parade, the group cranks it down a notch, and the darkness begins to fade as a light flickers over the horizon.  The group displays its knack for beautiful harmonization, and once again Toones voice shines with raging optimism.

Somethings Got to Give begins with Toones beautiful melodic voice that is quickly enveloped in a crashing rage of cymbals.  He exclaims Weve been watching the world give in as he fights through the storm, hitting moments of tranquility.

In the album closer, Undercurrents, Pollen nods towards its influences above the atmospheric guitars and leaves the listener with an appetite for more.  Toone has shown that he has a voice to be reckoned with and will likely be showing up on your radio in the future.
