Ponies in the Surf: A Demonstration
[Early Morning Late Night]

Dear Ponies in the Surf,

This farce has to stop. I know that you love me. Really, I do. I can see it in your soft, gentle, ooh-ahh vocals and your quiet, skillfully pluckish guitars. I hear it in your lovelorn and innocent lyrics. Regardless, I simply cannot lead you on any longer. I know that you have just released your Demonstration LP and I have been faithfully listening to it for a full week now. You must know that I cannot love you back. Please allow me to explain

I admire you very much. I find it so charming that a brother/sister team [Alexander and Camille McGregor] on a Boston-based record label [Early Morning Late Night] want to be cute for me. I find it so flattering. I mean, I could never forget that time you opened your heart to me on Ventricle. I loved that you were willing to spill your love to a quirky Brazilian guitar riff. And also on Je taime when you sweetly seduced me with ill-pronounced French nothings. It was so lovely, it almost broke my rigid heart. I appreciate that your quest from humble naissance to acoustic indie cabaret has taken you so far, and to me.

That being said, lets face it. Its just not working out between us. In all honesty, it really annoyed me when, after all of your indie beauty and originality, you tried to be Elliot Smith on Gipirales. That is so not what I need from you. And that subtly narcissistic band theme song disguised as a hidden track, was just the final straw. Why do you always have to be so sentimental and out of tune? It confuses me. Thats why I have to tell you that its over. It all started out so nobly. It was nice while it lasted, but I need someone a little stronger. Do take care, my little Ponies.

Love,

Kevin
